Individual Counseling

What happens in a counseling session?

  • We meet virtually via zoom, FaceTime, or phone call. We chat. We collaborate. You share what’s up and what has bothered you, I listen intently and make sure I get what you mean. You are not pressured to share anything you don’t want to.

  • You are the expert on your experiences, I bring my skills and know-how about mental health concerns like anxiety and depression, trauma, relationships and neurodivergence (ADHD and autism, for example) into the mix.

  • We figure out what you can practically get from therapy and work toward the goals you create.

  • We get outside help (medication, neuropsych testing, family or partner sessions, etc.) when we need it.

    Why telehealth and not in-person?

  • There are pros and cons to telehealth. For a snapshot, click here.

  • For a lot of clients who have busy lives, are impacted by trauma, or who happen to be neurospicy (or all of the above!), the convenience, boundaries, and ability to meet in a flexible settings (for example, you can choose to be out on a walk, doing your laundry, sitting in your comfy place) has been extra helpful and makes regular therapy sustainable.

  • When it comes to security and privacy, all sessions are conducted using HIPAA-compliant video or phone calls (Zoom or Facetime) using personal, encrypted rooms unique to each client.

    How long are sessions?

  • Sessions are 50-60 minutes long, typically starting 5 past the hour/half hour.

    How much will this cost?

  • $180 per session, payable on the day of your session.

  • I am currently a private-pay, out-of-network provider. While I don't accept insurance directly, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for a portion of our session cost. I use a platform called Thrizer to handle the out-of-network process automatically for you.

    • With Thrizer, once you have met your deductible, you will only have to pay a copay for our sessions, instead of paying my full fee and waiting for reimbursements. This typically allows clients to save on average 70% upfront on our sessions.

    • During our intake process, I can help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits, how close you are to meeting your deductible, and how much your copay would be.

How long do we work together?

  • It depends! We can meet for a few sessions that focus on a specific issue, meet regularly to keep momentum going, and even meet for a few months to a few years to really dig deep into relational patterns and support you. A big part of building a therapeutic relationship is knowing you have a resource in me when you need one, so you can always come back and check in, too.

Do you work with couples?

  • Yes, with a note: in couples work, I primarily focus on helping individuals and partners with neurodivergence (ADHD and autism, as well as other learning differences) better understand, collaborate, and work together to build better relationships and home environments.

What about therapy for my child, ages 3-12?

  • I focus on working with the parents/caregivers to help them understand, support, and build a thriving environment for the child. You are with your child day to day, and often getting support and skills yourself makes a way bigger impact than meeting with a kid once a week.

What about therapy for my child, ages 12-18?

  • I work with both the child as well as the parents/caregivers, often meeting in alternating one-on-one and joint sessions, to help everyone better understand, support, and work together to build a supportive family environment.
